SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State quarterback
TJ Finley continued to receive national attention for his performance in the double-digit win at Baylor last Saturday as he has earned weekly accolades from six different organizations.
In addition to being named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, Finley was named a Manning Award Star of the Week, selected to the Davey O'Brien Great 8, and tabbed as the player of the week by the Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl and Lone Star Sports & Entertainment. He was also named an honorable mention for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week.
Finley produced 316 yards of total offense at Baylor and accounted for four touchdowns: three passing and one rushing. The redshirt sophomore was 22-of-30 passing with 298 yards and rushed for 18 yards. He was the first Bobcat quarterback to have three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown in the same game since 2018 (Tyler Vitt).
The Ponchatoula, La. native is in his first season at Texas State after transferring from Auburn.
Texas State continues its road swing to start the season by renewing the I-35 Rivalry with UTSA on Saturday at the Alamodome. Kickoff is set for 2:30 pm and can be watched on ESPN+.
