SAN MARCOS, Texas – Jack Burke,
Marcelo Garza,
Kasper Nyland, and
Tom Roed Karlsen were named 2022-23 GCAA All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Wednesday.
548 NCAA Division I student-athletes from 194 schools earned All-America Scholar honors.
This is Nyland's second time being named an All-America Scholar, and first time for Burke, Garza, and Karlsen.
Burke finished at the top of the Bobcat lineup three times in the season with two finishes in the top-10, and three in the top-25. The sophomore shot four-under 212 as an individual for his lowest 54-hole total to open the fall season.
In their first season at Texas State, Garza and Karlsen made a combined total of 15 tournament appearances. The juniors both competed in the postseason National Golf Invitational where the Bobcats claimed the team championship. In the second tournament of the season, Karlsen finished as the individual medalist at the Tempest Collegiate.
Nyland competed in 11 tournaments and had three top-five finishes. The junior co-led the team in eagles with four, recorded six rounds in the 60s, and finished with 10 under-par rounds.
As a team, men's golf recorded a 3.52 GPA which is the program's best spring GPA in team history.
To be named a GCAA All-America Scholar, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically. They must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds and have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2.
