Peejay Brun Joins Softball, Volleyball Coaching Staff

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball head coach Ricci Woodard and volleyball head coach Sean Huiet announced Friday the return of Peejay Brun to Texas State as an Assistant Softball Coach and Director of Volleyball Operations.

"I'm excited to have Peejay back as part of our program," said Woodard. "She was one of the first people I added to my staff back when I first started here at Texas State so having her join us again is going to be great. She has a ton of knowledge and bringing that into our program is going to be huge."

Peejay Brun will return for her third stint at Texas State following a season at Kennesaw State. Brun joined the Bobcats staff initially in 2007 where she was an assistant coach for eight seasons before leaving the program to be head coach and Hawaii Hilo. She rejoined the staff in the fall of 2016 and was with the team for the 2017 season which saw 42 wins in her first season back.

"I am truly excited to be getting back to TXST and to have the opportunity to work with not one but two successful coaches," Brun said. "Coach Woodard has been a great mentor and friend throughout the years. She's built a successful competitive program so when she called me about the position the answer was an easy yes."

Prior to spending a season with Kennesaw State, Brun was Head Coach of the UT Arlington Mavs for five seasons. Her return to Texas State for the 2023-24 season will be her 10th on the staff overall. Brun will be re-joining Bobcat softball as an assistant coach, as well as serving as Director of Operations for Bobcat volleyball.

"I met Coach Huiet when I started at TXST and have been following his success throughout the years," Brun said. "Having an opportunity to work with a different sport can only help me grow as a coach."

"Having Peejay back as a Bobcat is so exciting," Huiet said. "We know her expertise is on the softball field, but we're anxious for her to be a part of our program as our Director of Operations.  She has been a head coach and knows the ins and outs of running a program, so I am grateful for all the experience she is going to bring."

Brun brings over two decades of coaching experience with her to Texas State including coaching nearly a decade alongside Woodard. This will be Brun's first time working in volleyball.

"Thank you to Director of Athletics, Don Coryell, for giving me this opportunity to come back to Bobcat country," Brun said. "I have never stopped feeling the love from Bobcat fans and it feels like coming home."
