DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Texas State is in first after the opening round of the Sun Belt Women's Golf Championship, and
Marine Griffaut is tied for first at the LPGA International course. Texas State was the only team to finish the day under par.
Texas State finished one-under 287, their fourth lowest opening round total of the season. The Bobcats enter the second round with a six-stroke lead ahead of ULM and Georgia Southern tied for second.
Marine Griffaut is tied for first after recording her fifth round in the 60's and tied her season low 18-hole total after finishing four-under 68. The junior leads the tournament in birdies with seven, and four coming from the back nine. Griffaut co-leads the tournament with Old Dominion's Leah Onosato.
Junia Gabasa is tied for fifth at one-under 71 and was the second Bobcat to finish the first day under par. Gabasa recorded five birdies and is in the top-three of par 3 and par 4 scoring, as well as birdies.
Mattingly Palmer and
Matilda Svahn finished inside the top-20 at two-over 74. Palmer is in a three-way tie for first in pars, having 16.
Yvonne Chamness rounds out the Texas State lineup tied for 33
rd four-over par.
