PHOENIX – The series finale went against Texas State as Grand Canyon took the game 11-0 Sunday afternoon at GCU Ballpark.

With the result, the Bobcats are now 7-4 on the season while the Lopes improve to 8-3.

Making his second start of the week,
Colby Diaz (0-1) took the loss after allow three runs on three hits and two walks. Earning the win on the rubbers was Connor Markl (1-0) as he struck out four in six innings of work.

Reece Gould tossed 1.2 innings without allowing a run while both
Jonathan Martinez and
Otto Wofford worked scoreless frames out of the bullpen.
McCray Gann also retired both of the batters he faced.

Picking up a hit apiece was
Chris Bernal,
Ryan Leary,
Ben McClain,
Chase Mora and
Kameron Weil.
Â
Texas State had a chance to break the game in the first when three of the first five batters were walks. However, the Lopes were able to get out of the inning unscathed. TXST was able to get two on in the second but were again unable to find a way to bring a run home.

For the first time in the series, GCU scored first when Zach Yorke led off the second with a solo homer to right field. Two more runs would be tacked on in the next frame, followed by four in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Two singles in by McClain and Bernal gave the Bobcats a runner in scoring position in the sixth. The frame ended with a groundout that kept the team off the scoreboard.

A free pass with the bases loaded would cap off the scoring for the Lopes in the eighth.

Tuesday sees TXST begin a 10-game homestand beginning with a matchup with I-35 rival UTSA on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
