Bobcats Upset #11 TCU 8-4

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State (11-5) extended its winning streak to four games with a win over 11th-ranked TCU (9-7) Tuesday night at Bobcat Ballpark by a score of 8-4. It was the Bobcats fourth victory over a Power 5 program this season.

"Tonight started with Tony Robie on the mound. He has been in the bullpen trying to do different things. We gave him the start tonight and he took advantage of it," said head coach Steven Trout. "He threw the ball really well. If his pitch count was built up more, he would have kept going. He gave us exactly what we needed. Then Jack Stroud came in held them down."

"Offensively we got after them tonight. Good swings in the middle of the field and opposite field home runs, although we left some runners out there tonight. Really good quality win with only four free 90s on the night."

Jose Gonzalez fell a triple short of hitting for the cycle while scoring twice and plating two runs. Going 3-for-4 with a double and RBI was Ryder Hernandez while Cade Manning finished with two base knocks. Also finishing with two RBI on the evening was Peyton Lewis and August Ramirez.

Making his first start of the season and picking up the win was Tony Robie (2-0). The right-hander struck out two in four innings while surrendering two runs, one of them earned, on four hits. Jack Stroud threw 3.2 scoreless innings and had five strikeouts. Working the final 1.1 innings was Triston Dixon, who struck out one.

The Horned Frogs got on the scoreboard first in the second on an RBI single from Jake Duer.

In the bottom of the third, three of the first four batters were walked to load the bases. Ramirez laced a 1-0 offering to center field that brought in two runs. Chase Mora would groundout to his counterpart that plate a run for his first RBI this season that didn't come as a result of a home run.

Capping off the five-run third was Lewis with a two-run homer to right for his first home run of the season.

TCU got a run back on an Austin Davis solo round tripper in the next half inning.

The Bobcats answered right back in the bottom of the fourth as Gonzalez went the other way for a two-run long ball that landed on the softball field. Hernandez would cap off the scoring for TXST with an RBI double down the third baseline in the fifth.

In the ninth, the Horned Frogs would scrap together two runs for the final tallies of the contest.

Next up for Texas State is the Sun Belt Conference opening series against newcomer and 25th-ranked Southern Miss. The series begins on Friday from Bobcat Ballpark at 6 p.m.
