SAN ANTONIO – Texas State (5-2) went on the road for the first time this season and defeated Incarnate Word (3-5) 12-8 Tuesday evening at Sullivan Field. It was the Bobcats' first win in San Antonio over the Cardinals since Feb. 20, 1991.

Daylan Pena drove in five runs that included hitting a grand slam.
Jose Gonzalez finished with three RBI and scored three times. Drawing four walks was
Cade Manning. He also scored twice, along with
Rashawn Galloway and
Kameron Weil.

Finishing 3-for-5 at the plate was
Peyton Lewis. Also having two base knocks in the game was
Alex Gonzales and Weil.

Picking up the win on the mound was
Otto Wofford (1-0) after he threw two innings of relief and struck out the first four batters he faced.
Cameron Bush went 1.1 scoreless innings and
Jack Stroud struck out all three batters he faced.
Colby Diaz started and made his debut on the rubber, going 3.1 innings with three strikeouts and surrendering three runs on four hits.

The game began with Weil hitting a shot back to center for a single. Two batters later, Gonzalez smashed a 3-2 offering to left center for his fourth home run of the season and give the Bobcats an early 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the frame, Alec Carr answered back with a two-run round tripper of his own to tie the game. The Cardinals would go up 3-2 when a pickoff throw was wide and then an attempt to get the runner at third saw the relay throw get airmailed into the UIW bullpen.

TXST would retake the lead for good in the fifth. Pena drew a bases loaded walk that tied the game and then the Cardinals threw a wild pitch and a bad throw to the pitcher covering the plate allowed a second run to score to make it a 5-3 Bobcat advantage.

During the top half of the sixth,
Peyton Benesh went the other way through the right side for an RBI single and Gonzalez was walked on four pitches with the bases juiced. Pena followed by sending the first pitch he saw deep into the Alamo City night sky for a grand slam, the second of his career, which increased the lead to 11-3.

UIW responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame. The next half inning saw
Cade Manning work a free pass while the bases were loaded to put the Bobcats ahead by six.

The Cardinals capped off the scoring for the game with two more in the bottom of the seventh.

Cameron Bush needed just four pitches to get through a scoreless eighth and Stroud struck out the side in the ninth to wrap up the victory.
