DALLAS – Senior right-hander
Triston Dixon of the Texas State baseball team was one of 81 players named to the initial watch list for the 18 annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in the NCAA Division I Baseball, announced by the association on Thursday.
Â
Dixon is coming off a season in which he went 8-0 with a 2.93 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 58.1 innings. He appeared in 27 games with one start, that coming in the opening weekend of the campaign. His eight victories tied for the most on the team and were most by a reliever in the Sun Belt Conference.
Â
The senior was named to the Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-America Second Team and earlier this month was selected to the All-Sun Belt Preseason Team in the lone reliever spot.
Â
Dixon will be looking to join former teammate
Tristan Stivors in taking home the award. Stivors claimed the honor after leading the nation with 18 saves along with posting a 7-1 record, 2.21 ERA and 86 strikeouts.
Â
Along with Dixon, other Sun Belt players on the list were James Madison's Sean Culkin and Georgia Southern's Jay Thompson.
Â
Dixon and the Bobcats begin the 2023 season tonight at 6 p.m. at Bobcat Ballpark against Northwestern in the first of three games this weekend.
