Wells Named to Golden Spikes Preseason Watch List

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Junior right-hander Levi Wells was one of 55 players named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List on Friday. He is the first Texas State player ever named to the list.

The award is given to the nation's top amateur baseball player from the high school and college game.

Wells has received multiple accolades heading into the 2023 campaign. He has been named to the four different preseason All-America teams, was selected to the All-Sun Belt Conference Preseason Team and ranked as the 19th best starting pitcher in the country by D1Baseball.

Last season, the La Porte, Texas native went 8-3 with a 3.07 ERA and struck out 86 over 18 games. He went the distance in the second game of the series at App State for the lone complete game thrown by a Bobcat hurler.

Twice Wells was named the league's pitcher of the week and would go on to earn All-Sun Belt First Team accolades.

Wells was one of three Sun Belt players on the list. Joining him are Tanner Hall (Southern Miss) and Carson Roccaforte (Louisiana).

The 2023 season begins next Friday for Wells and Texas State for the first of three games against Northwestern at Bobcat Ballpark.
