Soccer Faces Regular Season Champion Jaguars in Sun Belt Quarterfinals

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Coming off its first victory in the Sun Belt Conference Championship since 2018 on Monday, No. 8 Texas State (9-6-4) is back in action on Thursday in the quarterfinals against No. 1 seed and regular season champion South Alabama (15-0-3). Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. from the Foley Sports Complex.

About Texas State
The Bobcats scored the first two goals in a 2-1 win over Louisiana in Monday's first round contest. Mady Soumare netted the match-winner late in the 72nd minute. Caitlyn Draper stopped seven shots on the night, which is tied for the second most by a TXST goalkeeper in a Sun Belt Tournament match with Heather Martin, who did it twice.
 
A team-high seven goals and 17 points have been recorded by Olivia Wright. Soumare has scored four goals while Zoe Junior and Victoria Meza have netted three goals apiece. A team leading six assists belongs to Kennley Bradley. Her total is tied for the sixth most in a season in program history and is the first player to reach the mark since 2017. Right behind her with four assists each are Junior and Meza while Lily Erb and Mya Ulloa have three assists apiece.
 
Draper has started the last 12 matches in goal where she has recorded a 1.24 with 61 saves and a .782 save percentage. The Hutto, Texas native's five shutouts are the second most by a TXST freshman goalkeeper.
 
About South Alabama
The Jaguars ended the regular season with a 3-1 win over Arkansas State to extend their winning streak to six matches. Away from home, USA is 7-0-2 with the two draws coming in conference play to Southern Miss (0-0) and ULM (1-1). Last time the Jaguars did not reach the Sun Belt Championship semifinals was in 2012.
 
Gabby Hollar leads the Sun Belt with 12 goals and 29 points while taking 46 shots and placing 21 on goal. Chiara Singarella has added eight goals and a team-high seven assists. Gracie Wilson has totaled six goals and five assists while Jasmine Greene enters with five goals and six assists to her credit.
 
In goal, Jaidy Gutierrez Campos has played in 16 matches and started 15 including all 10 in conference play. The junior comes in with a 0.39 GAA and has made 30 saves with a .833 save percentage. Allison Luckhardt has made three starts between the posts. She has allowed one goal (0.40 GAA) and made four saves.
 
All-Time vs. Jaguars
South Alabama leads the all-time series 9-1-2. In the regular season meeting, the Jaguars won 4-0 at home with two goals in each half. Texas State's lone win in the series came on Sept. 23, 2018 in Mobile. Kaylee Davis scored the lone goal of the 1-0 contest early in the 10th minute while Heather Martin made 10 saves, seven of which came in the second half.
 
Only once before has the teams met in the Sun Belt Championship. That came in the 2018 semifinals and ended in a 1-1 draw. The Bobcats won the penalty kick shootout 4-2 to advance to the finals.
