SAN MARCOS, Texas – After two rounds on the first day of the Jim West Challenge the Bobcats are in a three-way tie for first at the Kissing Tree Golf Club.
Matilda Svahn and
Marine Griffaut are tied for second.
Team
Texas State ended to first round of the tournament in fifth place going seven-under par. The Bobcats moved into a three-way tie for first with No. 26 Houston and No. 39 SMU at 15-under 561 to end the first day of competition. The two 18-hole rounds today are the lowest of the season for Texas State.
The Bobcats will have a two-stroke lead on No. 43 UNLV and Texas Tech heading in the final round.
Individual
Five Bobcats are in the top-25, with three in the top-10. Five Bobcats recorded new 18-hole lows this season. Texas State is in the top-three of par 4 and par 5 scoring and recorded 43 birdies through two rounds.
In the first round of the Jim West Challenge
Marine Griffaut finished first after shooting seven-under 65, a personal-best, and had an eagle. The senior ended the second round under par to sit at nine-under in the tournament and is tied for second alongside
Matilda Svahn. Svahn improved in the second round recording a five-under 67to move up the leaderboard eight spots.
Hailey Jones is in sixth and is one-stroke behind the second-place finishers, the graduate transfer recorded two rounds in the 60s and is eight-under par after day one.
Yvonne Chamness maintained her spot in the top-15 after staying under-par in both rounds to finish three-under.
Mattingly Palmer had a three stroke improvement in the second round, shooting two-under 70 to end the day one-under par. Freshmen
Carla Bourdeaux and
Fia Lindblom round out the Texas State lineup, both having their best 18-hole totals in the second round.
