Soccer Travels to Take on Unbeaten Jaguars

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The last road match of the regular season for Texas State (8-5-3, 3-2-3 Sun Belt) sees the team travel to face unbeaten South Alabama (13-0-3, 6-0-2 Sun Belt) on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. from The Cage.

About Texas State
On Thursday, the Bobcats defeated East Division leaders Old Dominion 2-1 that saw all three goals be scored in the final 10 minutes. Lily Erb netted her second goal of the season and her first career match-winner with nearly four minutes left on the clock. The victory place TXST eighth in the Sun Belt Conference standings with a two-point advantage over Southern Miss and are two back of a three-way tie for fifth between App State, Georgia State and James Madison.
 
Leading the team with five goals and 12 points is Olivia Wright. Tallying three goals apiece has been Zoe Junior, Victoria Meza and Mady Soumare. The trio of Kennley Bradley, Junior and Meza have a team best four assists while Mya Ulloa and Erb are right behind them with three apiece.
 
Caitlyn Draper continues to shine in goal for the Bobcats. She ranks fifth in save percentage (.842) and seventh in goals against average (0.84) among freshmen national. The Hutto, Texas native has also made 48 saves with at least six in the past three matches.
 
About South Alabama
The Jaguars are one of six unbeaten teams in the nation and are on an 18-match unbeaten streak dating back to last season. They are coming off a 1-0 win on Thursday at Coastal Carolina. At home, USA is 6-0-2 with three victories in conference play. The Jaguars currently lead the Sun Belt with 20 points, four points better than the Monarchs.
 
Gabby Hollar leads the squad with 10 goals, 23 points, 39 shots and three match-winning goals. Chiara Singarella has added seven tallies and is tied with Jasmine Greene with a team-high six assists. Both Gracie Wilson and Greene have scored five goals apiece. Overall, USA has scored 43 goals which is tied for the 10th most in the nation with Clemson and Grand Canyon.
 
Between the posts, Jaidy Gutierrez Campos has played in 14 matches and made 13 starts. The junior sports a 0.37 GAA with 27 saves and a .844 save percentage. Coming into Sunday, she has not allowed a goal in the last 316:12 minutes. Allison Luckhardt has started three matches this year and comes in with a 0.40 GAA and four saves.
 
All-Time vs. Jaguars
The series has been dominated by South Alabama, which leads 8-1-2. The Jaguars have won the last three meetings and recorded a shutout in all of them including a 3-0 contest last year in San Marcos.
 
The only victory for Texas State came on Sept. 13, 2018 by a 1-0 score. Kaylee Davis scored the lone goal early in the 10th minute while Heather Martin made 10 saves, seven of which came in the second half. That season also saw the teams play to a 1-1 draw in the Sun Belt Tournament semifinals that ended with the Bobcats advancing on penalty kicks 4-2.
 
The first-ever Sun Belt match for TXST was against USA in Mobile. The match ended in a 2-2 draw on Sept. 27, 2013.
