SAN MARCOS, TX — Following Texas State's 66-59 win over App State Thursday night, it no longer takes more than five minutes to find the last time a pair of Bobcat women's basketball student-athletes recorded double-doubles in the same game.
As the only two Texas State student-athletes to play 31-or-more minutes against the Mountaineers, fifth-year seniors
Kennedy Taylor and
Da'Nasia Hood each finished with double-doubles, marking the first time since the Bobcats' trip to UTEP on Nov. 19, 2022, that a pair of Texas State teammates recorded a double-double in the same game.
Hood finished as the Bobcats' leading scorer and rebounding against App State as the San Antonio native scored 19 points and brought down 11 rebounds. Taylor, who directed a Texas State offense that finished with a 46.8 shooting percentage on the night, paired 11 points with a season-high 13 assists.
Taylor's 13 assists tied her career high, which she set against UTA on Feb. 1, 2020, and was one shy of tying Taeler Deer's program record of 14 assists set in a contest against Georgia State on Jan. 27, 2018.
The second half of Thursday's game was when the duo shined the most as Hood netted 12 of her 19 points during the final 20 minutes. Taylor had over half of her assist total (7) during the same period.
But it was really the final 10-minute stanza when Antoine needed her all-conference duo. And they delivered as Hood scored nine of the Bobcats' 17 points during the fourth quarter, while Taylor was credited with five of her team's six assists.
FROM HEAD COACH ZENARAE ANTOINE
"First off, I want to take my hat off to App State, that's a really good team. The matchup — from the very beginning — was going to be very difficult, because of their ability to spread the floor out, while being able to put the ball on the floor, too. They are excellent 3-point shooters, which we obviously saw tonight, so we really had to challenge our team, specifically our forwards, because they aren't used to guarding guards off the bounce and there were times (App State) was playing with five guards at once."
FROM FORWARD DA'NASIA HOOD
"I think I played OK tonight. Of course, there's always room for improvements. I think it's all about just staying focused and being locked on what our coaches are saying to us, staying locked in on our assignment first and then finding a way to help our teammates out. It feels good to get the win, but there's always room to get better."
