SAN MARCOS, Texas – In one of the more thrilling weeks in January in recent Texas State football history, the Bobcats added nine new players through the transfer portal, including quarterback Malik Hornsby, four offensive linemen, and four players on the defensive side of the ball.
Hornsby was the first to be announced on January 9, kicking off the wave of new additions to the Texas State roster under newly-named head coach GJ Kinne. Hornsby is a former four-star recruit out of Missouri City, Texas and Fort Bend Marshall High School. The dual-threat quarterback spent the last three seasons at Arkansas and played in 15 career games.
Following Hornsby was the rollout of four offensive line transfers from Incarnate Word. All-American Caleb Johnson was joined by former Cardinal teammates Jimeto Obigbo, Emeka Obigbo, and Dorion Strawn. The Bobcats offensive line will now feature five new players from UIW, as this week's four join All-American
Nash Jones who transferred to Texas State in December.
Defensively, the Bobcats added defensive backs Joshua Eaton (Oklahoma) and Darius Jackson (Missouri) as well as defensive lineman Bryce Cage (Southeastern Louisiana) and linebacker Dan Foster, Jr. (Marshall). Both Eaton and Jackson were high-level recruits out of high school, with Eaton being a four-star out of Aldine MacArthur High School in Houston and Jackson being a three-star Red Oak High School in Red Oak, Texas. Cage and Foster, meanwhile, are originally from Louisiana and Florida, respectively.
