SAN MARCOS, TX — In the midst of the longest homestand during its conference schedule, the Texas State women's basketball program will play its third of four consecutive home games on Thursday, Jan. 12, when the Bobcats host Georgia State at 11 a.m. CT.
Thursday's game will mark the return of the program's annual 'Kid's Game,' too, as seven different institutions within the SMCISD system will be in attendance. It will mark the first time since Feb. 27, 2020 that the Texas State athletic department has orchestrated the event as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brant Freeman (play by play) and Suzanne Fox (analyst) will call the game's action on ESPN+.
JUNGLE PARTY
- A win over the Panthers would give Texas State its longest winning streak (3) in the series history since winning four consecutive matchups against Georgia State from Feb. 16, 2017 to Jan. 5, 2019. That four-game winning streak by the Bobcats is the longest by either team in the series history.
- Since Georgia State won the first-ever matchup, 82-69, on Feb. 17, 2014, Texas State has responded by winning 10 of the next 13 to hold a 10-4 all-time record against the Panthers.
- Texas State will enter Thursday morning's game having won six of the last seven games against Georgia State dating back to Feb. 16, 2017.
- During the month of January, Texas State is 4-2 against Georgia State. The Bobcats are looking to win back-to-back games over the Panthers during the month of January since winning three straight on Jan. 2, 2016, Jan. 27, 2018 and Jan. 5, 2019.
- When the two women's basketball programs last linked up on the hardwood in Atlanta on Jan. 15, 2022, Kennedy Taylor was credited with her first career double-double with 15 points and 10 assists. Her performance complimented Da'Nasia Hood's 26-point, 14-rebound double-double as the Bobcats beat the Panthers 73-55.
- Da'Nasia Hood will enter Thursday's action as the only active Texas State women's basketball student-athlete to have consecutive games played against Georgia State with 10-or-more points scored. In addition to her 26-point outing at Georgia State last season, Hood also scored 18 points against the Panthers on Feb. 29, 2020.
- Thursday's game will mark the first time Georgia State has played a collegiate women's basketball game against Texas State inside Strahan Arena since Feb. 29, 2020, a span of 1,048 days or two years, 10 months and 14 days.
NO, NO, NO
- With one more block, sixth-year senior Tianna Eaton will become the first active Texas State women's basketball student-athlete to be credited with 20-or-more blocks in a single season.
- Eaton will also become the first student-athlete in program history to record 20-or-more blocks during a single season since Ti'Aira Pitts was credited with 34 during the 2017-18 season.
- Pitts' 34 blocks during the 2017-18 season are tied for the ninth most by a Texas State women's basketball student-athlete for a single season.
- Pitts also finished her Bobcat career with 74 career blocks, which is the third most in the program's history.
- Eaton will become just the sixth women's basketball student-athlete under 12th-year head coach Zenarae Antoine to be credited with 20-or-more blocks in a single season.
ALONE AT THE TOP
- In conference-only games this season, Texas State's fifth-year senior point guard Kennedy Taylor has the top two single-game assist performances entering this weekend's set of Sun Belt games:
- Taylor's 13 assists against App State on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023 made the Dallas native the only women's basketball student-athlete in the Sun Belt to be credited with 10-or-more assists in a single conference game so far this season. Her 8-assist game at Georgia Southern (12/29/22) is tied for second in the league.
KIDS BY THE THOUSANDS
- For the first time since Feb. 27, 2020, the Texas State women's basketball program's annual 'Kid's Game' returns when the Bobcats play Georgia State at 11 AM on Thursday, Jan. 12.
