SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis program begins a new era this weekend as they open the season at the ASU Slam Fest under new Head Coach
Kendall Brooks.
The two-day tournament hosted by Angelo State, begins Friday with competition from Division I and Division III levels in San Angelo, Texas with singles and doubles action taking place at four venues. Along with Angelo State and Texas State, other schools competing include Tarleton State, Abilene Christian, and Southwestern.
Singles play kicks off the weekend Friday at 1 p.m. at the ASU Tennis Courts, the recreational courts on the ASU campus, and the Concho Valley Tennis Association.
Doubles play will start at 7 p.m. that evening at the Bentwood Country Club.
The action closes out on Saturday with the final round of singles play at 10 a.m. at the same three singles locations from Friday. The last two rounds of doubles play will conclude the ASU Slam Fest.
The Bobcats have five returners from last season, including doubles All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team selection,
Kate Malazonia.
In the first recruiting class for Coach Brooks, she brings in experience at all levels. Additions to the roster include two Division I transfers
Emma Carr and
Kiana Graham, and two freshmen
Andrea Pineda and
Jacqueline Schnabel.
Following this weekend, the Bobcats will travel to Kingsville, Texas for the Javelina Jam Sept. 16-17.
