SAN MARCOS, Texas – In the newest States Up podcast, Texas State basketball player's
Davion Sykes and
Kennedy Claybrooks join to share their experiences at Texas State so far as incoming freshmen as well as their backgrounds in the game of basketball.
Sykes, whose father, David, played at Texas State from 1999 to 2003, joined the Bobcats after a playing career at Duncanville High School filled with four state championships and individual accolades.
Sykes shares what is like playing at the same university where both his father and mother attended, how his family has shaped his competitive mindset, and other things he does away from the court.
Claybrooks, from Memphis, was an All-Metro player at Bartlett (TN) high school in her prep career and helped the school to multiple deep state tournament runs.
In the podcast, the 5-foot-6 point guard shares what Memphis is like, playing along multiple Division I players while in high school, the different roles her mom and dad played in her athletic background, what she has learned from Ja Morant, and more.
