SAN ANTONIO – Tallying goals in for Texas State in Saturday's exhibition match at UTSA was junior
Mya Ulloa and freshman
Mallory Henderson. However, the Roadrunners claimed the contest 3-2 at Park West Athletics Complex that saw the teams play three 30-minute periods.
UTSA struck for two goals in the first period. The first came late in the third minute off a free kick from the right wing as the ball was headed in by Kendall Kloza from six yards out. Abby Kassal got her foot on a cross coming in from the right side midway through the 20th minute.
The best chance for the Bobcats in the opening stanza came in the eighth minute. Kamara Williams took a shot from inside the left half of the penalty box with the ball flying just past the right post.
In the 44th minute, Henderson sent a bending shot from the right side that went over the leaping goalkeeper's hands to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Juana Plata nearly tied the match late in the 56th minute with a shot attempt from 30 yards out. Fans saw the ball go just wide of the right post.
The Roadrunners netted their third and final goal in the 72nd minute when Sarina Russ headed in a corner from Kiran Singh.
Nearly making it a one-goal contest was
Haley Shaw during the 77th minute of play.
Wimberley Wright booted a long ball that resulted in the UTSA goalkeeper come charging out of the box to attempt a clearance. Shaw got in front of the kick and the ball ricocheted off her and a little wide of the right post.
A short pass from
Nia Chacon found Ulloa in the box. The junior midfielder sent a looping shot over the goalie for the final tally of the match in the 87th minute.
Next up for TXST is an exhibition versus Oklahoma on Friday, Aug. 12. The match will take place in Frisco, Texas with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
