SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State offensive lineman Kyle Hergel was among the nation's best named to the 2023 Senior Bowl Watch List, the Senior Bowl announced.
 
One of the top interior lineman prospects eligible for the 2023 NFL Draft, Hergel will look to be among the 110 participants in the showcase game for top seniors and early-graduating juniors in February 2023. The week-long evaluation period leading into the game in Mobile, Ala. serves as one of the top opportunities for NFL prospects.
 
Hergel has garnered significant preseason attention after his standout 2021 season. He has been named Preseason All-Sun Belt by PFF (first team), coaches and media (second team), Phil Steele (second team), and Athlon Sports (third team). He was also rated as the No. 20 interior offensive lineman by PFF going into this season.
 
Last year, Hergel started all 12 games at right guard and finished as the fourth-rated offensive lineman in the Sun Belt by PFF. He played 859 snaps and surrendered only one sack, helping him be named All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention in his first season in a Bobcat uniform.
 
The redshirt junior out of Toronto was also recently named one of the four team captains for the Bobcats this season.
 
The last Bobcat to play in the Senior Bowl was offensive lineman Jeff Novak in 1990. Former wide receiver and defensive back A.J. Johnson also played in the game in 1989.
 
Texas State is closing out its final week of preseason practice before it gears up for its season-opening opponent, Nevada, next week. The Bobcats and Wolfpack will play in Reno, Nev. on September 3 at 2:30 pm PT/4:30 pm CT. The game can be streamed on Nevada Sports Net (nevadasportsnet.com/watch).
