Hilts Selected as Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Nominee

The redshirt junior was one of five nominees from the Sun Belt Conference

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State football's Micah Hilts was named a nominee for the 2022 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® after demonstrating exemplary community service, academic dedication and an impact on and off the field.

Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) featured Hilts among its list of 114 student-athlete nominees from the FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA levels. Hilts is one of five nominees from the Sun Belt Conference.

A redshirt junior, Hilts has played in 21 of a possible 24 games in his Texas State career, but the tight end has been an active member of the community and strong representative of the Bobcat program. He has worked with Special Olympics Texas and several other community organizations around San Marcos while also serving on the leadership team of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) chapter at Texas State. The Communication Studies major is also a two-time Sun Belt Commissioner's List and Texas State Dean's List honoree.

Hilts and other nominees will be considered for the final 22-member team selected by a voting panel of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members and journalists. The panel, which also selects an honorary coach, looks for exceptional leadership on and off the football field. The final team is announced in September.

A captain of the AFCA Good Works Team is also selected based on a vote by fans. To vote, fans can do so through the official page on ESPN.com and use #GoodWorksTeam on social media to show their support of their deserving athlete.

Established in 1992, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is one of the most coveted community service awards in college football. From the 114 nominees, the final roster of 23 award recipients will bring together 11 players from the FBS level; 11 players from FCS, Divisions II, III and the NAIA; and one honorary head coach. To be considered for a spot on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, each player must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining strong academic standing.

This is the fourth time in the last five years Texas State has had a nominee for the Good Works Team. Last year, quarterback Tyler Vitt was among the candidates while in 2019, LeDarrius Harris was selected. In 2018, AJ Krawczyk represented the Bobcats.
