Bobcats Conclude Season in Quarterfinals of Conference Championship

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga.- Texas State ends their 2021-22 season in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Championship. Bobcats fought hard early, but it wasn't enough to keep the Jaguars from winning 4-0.

The Bobcats will return home with a 6-16 overall record, and 2-8 in the conference.

"I was really proud of the girls today," said assistant coach Kendall Brooks. "They fought hard and left it all out there and that's all you can really ask. We had some ups and downs this season but overall, this was a fun, hardworking group to coach. Hats off to the seniors for their contribution to our program over the years. And of course, it was a bittersweet day as Coach Plunkett was on the court coaching for the last time as well. But overall, lots to be proud of and looking forward to the future."

Doubles
Mae McCutcheon and Jadeh Chan dropped the first doubles match of the day on court two. The duo were able to come back after being down three, but ultimately fell 6-4 to Yu Fujioka and Lara van der Merwe, who were recently selected to the Doubles All-Conference First Team.

Texas State's own Doubles All-Conference Second Team pair, Hana Kvapilova and Kate Malazonia, were unable to make the doubles score even for the Bobcats. They lost 6-4 on court one to Nikola Kohoutova and Luminita Tutunaru.

Sofia Fortuno and Kylee Shannon's No. 3 match went unfinished.

Singles
The Bobcats were unable to come away with any singles match wins, three went unfinished.

Kate Malazonia produced the first loss on court two against the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year Kohoutova. Malazonia challenged her into a tiebreaker but came up short 7-6 (7-1), 6-0.

Hana Kvapilova also had a close match with a tiebreaker on court one against Fujioka, it went unfinished in the third 7-6 (7-4), 2-1.

South Alabama clinched the match when McCutcheon lost 7-5, 6-2 on line three to Tutunaru.
