SAN MARCOS, TX — For the first time throughout the 2022 season, the Texas State softball program will face a non-conference opponent for a third time when the Bobcats and Roadrunners from UTSA meet inside Bobcat Stadium at 6 p.m. CT on Tuesday, April 19.
Texas State (24-17, 10-8) will be looking for the season sweep of UTSA (14-23, 7-7) after picking up a 5-3 win in San Antonio on Wednesday, March 30. The win came just 15 days after
Jessica Mullins and
Karsen Pierce combined to shutout the Roadrunners, 4-0, in seven innings on Tuesday, March 15.
Tuesday evening's game against UTSA will mark the first time Texas State has played a non-conference opponent three times in the same season since playing the University of Texas (Wednesday, Feb. 24, Wednesday, April 21 and Saturday, May 22) throughout the 2021 season.
A win for Texas State over UTSA Tuesday evening will mark the first time a Bobcat team has beaten a non-conference team three different times in the same season since knocking off the University of Houston (6-1, 8-0, 5-2) on March 5 through March 7, 2021.
In a game originally scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 23, Texas State will also play UIW (13-26, 3-6) this week when the two programs take the field inside Bobcat Stadium on Wednesday, April 20 at 5:30 p.m. CT.
INSIDE THE SERIES: UTSA
With its two-run victory at UTSA on Wednesday, March 30, Texas State has now won 10 of its last 11 matchups against the Roadrunners dating back to the 2016 season, the one season the two teams didn't play since the series began in 1992.
A win over UTSA on Tuesday night will mark the seventh consecutive win for Texas State over the Roadrunners since the 2019 season.
INSIDE THE SERIES: UIW
A Wednesday night meeting with UIW will mark the first time the two softball programs have played each other since March 20, 2019, when the Bobcats won 2-0 behind a one-hit, no-walk outing from
Meagan King.
Texas State will enter the matchup riding a five-game winning streak over UIW. Under head coach
Ricci Woodard, the Bobcats are 6-1 all time against the Cardinals, including a perfect 4-0 mark in games played inside Bobcat Stadium.
