TUCSON, Ariz. – A big five-run fifth inning was the difference as the Texas State baseball team (10-2) defeated 11th-ranked Arizona (9-3) Sunday afternoon by a 7-3 score at Hi Corbett Field to claim the series. It was the first series victory in program history over a ranked team on the road.

Picking up the win was
Tony Robie (2-0) after he went allowed three runs in five innings while striking out two. Quinn Flanagan (1-1) took the loss as he allowed three runs on four hits in 2.1 innings.

Triston Dixon threw three scoreless innings of relief and struck out four.
Tristan Stivors finished the game off with two strikeouts in the ninth.

Both
Cameron Gibbons and
John Wuthrich drove in two runs apiece while
Daylan Pena scored twice. Finishing with two base knocks was
Dalton Shuffield and Gibbons.

Ben McClain led off the game with a double but had to be lifted for a pinch runner. A 2-1 pitch was sent to left field off the bat of Shuffield to put the Bobcats up early 1-0.

The Wildcats took a 3-1 lead in the third on back-to-back groundouts that plated runners and an RBI double.

Pena led off the fifth by fisting a single to right field. The very next pitch saw
John Wuthrich crush it to right center for a 2-run home run to tie the game. Shuffield would reach on a fielding error by the first baseman and
Wesley Faison immediately followed with a single to right. After
August Ramirez drew a walk to load the bases, Gibbons sent a 1-1 pitch to left for a two RBI single.

Another 1-1 offering was knocked to right for an RBI single off the bat of
Isaiah Ortega-Jones to put TXST up 6-3.

Faison hit a deep sacrifice fly to right that brought home
Jose Gonzalez to add an insurance.

In the ninth, Stivors came on to close out the game. He got help on the first out when Shuffield raced back into lef center and made an incredible leaping catch.
UA got a batter on base after a wild pitch on a third strike. That didn't faze the senior right-hander as he struck out the next Wildcat and induced a ground out to Shuffield to end the game.

Next up for the Bobcats is the first of back-to-back midweek games against No. 1 Texas. The first meeting takes place on Tuesday at Bobcat Ballpark with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
