SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team (3-1) clinched the series victory over Utah Valley (1-3) in dominating fashion Sunday afternoon. For the second time in the weekend, the Bobcats won by run rule with a 14-2 victory in eight innings.

Both
Dalton Shuffield and
John Wuthrich went 3-for-4 on the day. Shuffield plated two runs on his second home run of the season and Wuthirch came around to score thrice
Â. Posting a game-high three RBI apiece was
Cameron Gibbons,
Isaiah Ortega-Jones and
Daylan Pena with Ortega-Jones' total all coming on the walk-off homer.

Tony Robie (1-0) picked up the win as he struck out four and allowed two runs in five innings of work. Cole Yocum (0-1) surrendered five runs on five hits and three walks in 2.2 innings to suffer the loss.

TXST hurlers combined to set the last 15 Wolverine batters down in order as Robie retired the last six batters he faced and
Matthew Nicholas and
Austin Smith didn't allow a runner in their two and one inning of work, respectively.

Putting the Bobcats on the board in the first were Pena and Wuthrich as both hit RBI singles back up the middle. UVU responded by tying the game their next time at the plate.

Justin Thompson put Texas State back ahead in the third with an RBI double to right center. Two batters later, Gibbons laced a single through the left side of the infield with the bases loaded to bring home two more runs increase the advantage to 5-2.

Wesley Faison hit a single back up the middle with two gone in the sixth. On the very next pitch, Shuffield smashed the ball over the left field wall to increase the lead to five.

The Bobcats capped off the day with a seven-run eighth. Pena drove in two with the bases load on a single. Both
Peyton Lewis and Gibbons brought home a run in the frame as well. Ortega-Jones walked the game off when he blasted the first pitch he saw over the left field netting and on to the softball field for a three-run round tripper.

Next up for TXST is a midweek contest against Wichita State on Wednesday. The game will be played in Arlington, Texas at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers, with first pitch at 6:30 p.m.
