‘MVP on Both Ends of the Court'

Hood delivers ‘best game so far this year’ as Women's Basketball picks up its fifth win

SAN MARCOS, TX — When Zenarae Antoine needed her All-Sun Belt First Team standout Da'Nasia Hood in the Bobcats' 74-62 win over Loyola Marymount (Ca.) Saturday afternoon, the San Antonio native came through.

In the game's opening quarter, Hood scored 11 of her team's 22 points, before passing the scoring torch to Kennedy Taylor, who sank all five of her field goal attempts, during the second quarter as the forward went to work on the defensive end. Hood and her teammates carried that defensive lockdown mentality into the game's third stanza as the Bobcats limited the Lion offensive to only seven points on 25 percent shooting.

Then, when Antoine needed someone to close out the game, Hood knocked down all eight fourth-quarter free throw attempts and snagged four of her 10 rebounds throughout the game's final 10 minutes. The fifth year forward — like the first quarter — finished with 11 of the Bobcats' 20 points during the fourth quarter.

FROM HEAD COACH ZENARAE ANTOINE

"I thought all the young women who went out there tonight did something that was impactful. I will say, specifically, I thought tonight was Da'Nasia's best game so far this year, because she was so balanced defensively. I felt she was very focused on both ends (of the court) all night. This was the third consecutive game where we've asked her to guard high-scoring forwards and, I think the knock on Da'Nasia is if she can guard defensively, one on one, and I thought she did a good job. I think that speaks volumes as far as what we are asking from her."

FROM FORWARD DA'NASIA HOOD

"I was just trying to stay pose (on the court) tonight and playing within my team and let defense transfer to offense. I just wanted to stay locked in and make sure I was on the same page as all my teammates, so they knew when to pass me the ball. I'm just happy we were able to go out there and keep a good tempo, offensively, tonight."
