COLLEGE STATION, TX — The Texas State women's basketball program wanted to come out Wednesday afternoon and win the first "round" in its non-conference matchup at Texas A&M but the Aggies took the first round — and then the third, too — as the Bobcats fell in College Station, 67-46.
Texas State had its opportunities earlier in the first quarter, but a lid covered the basket for the Bobcats as the team missed their first four field goal attempts over the opening five minutes of the game. By the time
Da'Nasia Hood's pull-up jumper fell to get the Bobcats on the scoreboard with 4:48 left in the first stanza, the Aggies were already ahead by two possessions.
After Hood converted an and-one opportunity to cut Texas State's deficit to three, Texas A&M responded with a 7-0 run and led by 11 after the first quarter after the Bobcats could only hit two more shots throughout the remainder of the quarter.
Texas State bounced back, though, to outscore Texas A&M during the second quarter. Unfortunately, the Aggies made halftime adjustments, came out of the locker room and went on to score 21 points throughout the 10-minute third quarter while holding the Bobcats to only seven to balloon their lead to 23 after 30 minutes of game action.
FROM HEAD COACH ZENARAE ANTOINE
"You know, I think we just started out slow and we can't start out slow when you step into an arena of a team from a Power 5 Conference, especially one that's in state. You have to be able to come out, right away, and give them all we got, and I don't think we did that tonight. Were there times that we did? Absolutely. Yes, for sure. I thought we did a good job in the second and fourth quarters, but that's not enough because there are four quarters in a game. And, in order to find a way to beat a Power 5 opponent on the road, that's something we have to be able to do."
