SAN MARCOS, Texas – Russell Baker was named to the 2022 Academic All-District Football Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), the organization announced on Tuesday.
In his third season as a Bobcat, Baker has excelled in the classroom to go with being a key piece of the offensive line since 2020. The Owasso, Okla. native has a 3.66 cumulative GPA and is majoring in construction science and management.
Earlier this year, Baker was named a semifinalist for the 2022 William V. Campbell Trophy, which is college football's premier scholar-athlete award.
On the field, Baker has started in seven of his nine games played this year (541 snaps) and split time between center and guard. He has helped the offensive line allow the third-fewest sacks in the program's FBS history so far.
Last year, he was a PFF All-Sun Belt Third Team selection – a year after being named 2020 All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention by conference coaches and media.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late December after a vote by CSC members.
Baker will be among the seniors honored on Senior Day this Saturday before the Bobcats host Louisiana for the final game of the 2022 season. Kickoff is set for 4 pm at Bobcat Stadium.
