SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State football's
Jaylen Jenkins was named Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week after returning a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown in the Bobcats' 20-17 win over Utah State.
The running back from Dallas gave Texas State the lead before its offense took the field, answering Utah State's opening-drive field goal with a 100-yard touchdown return.
Jenkins recorded his second career 100-yard kickoff return touchdown, becoming the first player in program history to accomplish the feat. He is the second player in Texas State's FBS era with multiple kickoff return touchdowns, joining Brandon Smith, who recorded three from 2013-15.
Jenkins finished with a career-high 146 kickoff return yards on four attempts (36.5 average) and added 11 rushing yards. His 816 career kickoff return yards rank seventh in program history and fourth in the FBS era.
The honor marks Jenkins' second career Pac-12 weekly award. He was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week in 2022 while at Washington State after recording 130 rushing yards and 54 receiving yards against No. 6 USC.
Jenkins is the second Bobcat to earn Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week honors this season, joining
Dameon Crowe, who earned the award in week four after returning a punt 77 yards for a touchdown.
