SAN MARCOS, TX — On Saturday, Nov. 12, the Texas State women's basketball program will hit the roadways for the first time in the 2022-23 season as the Bobcats travel to Huntsville, Texas to play Sam Houston at 6:30 p.m. CT.
The game, which will be Texas State's first trip to Huntsville since Dec. 17, 2017, will be available to stream on ESPN+.
I USED TO PRAY FOR TIMES LIKE THIS, TO RHYME LIKE THIS
- The Texas State and Sam Houston series is one of the longest in Bobcat history as the two programs first met during the 1970 season, when the Bearkats won 73-42.
- Saturday night's game, however, will mark the first time the two have met on the hardwood since Dec. 17, 2017, when Texas State won 73-41.
- Texas State has won four of the last five matchups against Sam Houston, all of which have happened under head coach Zenarae Antoine.
- Antoine is 4-3 all time against the Bearkats.
- The last time Texas State played Sam Houston – Dec. 17, 2017 – the Bobcats went on to finish the 2017-18 season with a 23-10, 14-4 and a berth in the WNIT.
SO, I HAD TO GRIND LIKE THAT TO SHINE LIKE THIS
- Following a 12-assist performance in the Bobcats' season-opening win over Howard Payne earlier in the week, fifth-year senior guard Kennedy Taylor inches closer to passing Shelly Borton (1986-90) to become the program's career assist leader.
- The Dallas native needs only 12 more assists to earn the top spot.
Texas State Career Assists Leaderboard
- Shelly Borton (1986-90) – 595
- Kennedy Taylor (2018-P) – 584
SEEN MY DREAMS UNFOLD, NIGHTMARES COME TRUE
- With Ja'Kayla Bowie appearing in Monday night's game against Howard Payne, the fifth-year senior became the fourth active Bobcat women's basketball student-athlete to have appeared in 100-or-more collegiate basketball games.
- Kennedy Taylor (112), Da'Nasia Hood (107), Taelour Pruitt (106) and Bowie (100)
- Pruitt, a first-year Bobcat, appeared in 105 career games in a four-year career at SEMO.
- Tianna Eaton is on pace to become the next Bobcat to reach the milestone as the six-year senior needs to appear in only seven more games enter Saturday night's game at Sam Houston.
IT WAS TIME TO MARRY THE GAME AND I SAID, 'YEAH, I DO'
- A win over Sam Houston Saturday night will give Texas State its first 2-0 start to the season since the 2017-18 season, the last time the Bobcats played for a championship in the league's postseason tournament.
- That season, the Bobcats opened the campaign with an 87-70 win at Texas Tech on Nov. 12, and then a 74-33 victory at UIW on Nov. 15.
- Texas State went on to open conference play with a 7-4 record, before reeling off wins in three of its first four Sun Belt games and ended the regular season winning 11 of 12 games.
IF YOU WANT IT, YOU GOTTA SEE IT WITH A CLEAR-EYED VIEW
- Kennedy Taylor will enter Saturday night's game at Sam Houston as the nation's leader in assists per game with 12.0.
- Through Friday, Nov. 11, Taylor is one of just six student-athletes at the Division I level to be averaging 10-or-more assists in a game this season.
- Taylor joins Colorado State's McKenna Hofschild as the only student-athletes in the nation to stand 5-foot-3 or shorter and average 10.0-or-more assists a game.
- Hofschild is listed as 5-foot-2, while Taylor is 5-foot-3.
