LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Four Texas State men's basketball players finished in double-figures led by
Caleb Asberry's 19 in a 69-59 win over Little Rock at the Jack Stephens Center Thursday night.
Nighael Ceaser added 12 points and both
Mason Harrell and
Isiah Small netted 10 apiece.
Â
It was the Bobcats' third consecutive win as they improve to 12-4 overall and 3-1 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Trojans drop to 6-9 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
Â
A feed from Asberry to Small for a layup and a jumper in the paint by Harrell started the scoring in the game. LR were within at most two possessions for a little over the first 10 minutes of the game.
Â
Following two Trojan free throws to cut Texas State's advantage to two, Small converted a layup at the 9:08 mark that began a stretch of 13 consecutive points for the Bobcats as they ended the half on a 24-7 run.
Â
Texas State maintained a double-digit advantage for most of the second half with the largest margin being 19 after back-to-back layups by Ceaser with 11 minutes to play. The Trojans chipped away and eventually cut TXST's lead to just eight with 2:36 remaining. LR failed to make a shot the rest of the game as the Bobcats walked out of the arena with a victory.
Â
As a team, the Bobcats finished with 42 rebounds while limiting the Trojans to just 20. TXST also won the battle in the paint 42-16 and held the hosts to just 36.2% shooting.
Â
The weekend road trip wraps up for the Bobcats on Saturday with a trip to Arkansas State. Tipoff in Jonesboro, Arkansas is scheduled for 2 p.m.
