SAN MARCOS, Texas – Sophomore
Trinity Clark got a shot past the goalkeeper that trickled over the goal line with a second left in the first overtime period as Texas State claimed a 2-1 victory over Coastal Carolina Thursday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex to open Sun Belt Conference play.
The Bobcats have won three consecutive matches to improve to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the Sun Belt while the Chanticleers are now 2-4-1 and 0-0-1 in conference action.
In the first half, the teams combined to take 27 shots with 16 coming from a TXST player. Both squads put five shots on frame but CCU was the only one to find the back of the net. That came early in the 27th minute when Megan Brouse knocked in a cross to the back post from Sarah Allen.
The Bobcats were able to knot the score in the 56th minute. Mya Ulla crossed the ball in from the far side.
Bailey Peschel was there at the back post to knock it into the net for her first goal of the season.
For the rest of regulation, the Chanticleers were able to dominate possession but were only able to attempt three shots with none being on frame.
Madison Humphrey almost put Texas State in front with nearly seven minutes left on the clock when she dribbled in from the left side. Her shot hit off the post and bounced away from the goal.
CCU attempted three shots in the first six minutes of the overtime period with one being on frame and caught by
Beth Agee.
With 10 seconds left on the clock, Peschel sent a long pass forward to Ulloa. The sophomore forward attempted a shot from 25 yards out that deflected off a defender and bounced into the box. Clark continued her run and was able to beat the goalkeeper to the ball to toe-poke it past her and over the goal line with a second left on the clock for her second match-winner this season.
Ulloa recorded a career-high two assists on the night, tied for the third most in a match in program history. She is also the third Texas State player in the last two matches to record two assists.
Agee made six saves between the posts to earn her fourth win of the season. She now has 118 career saves to move past Lauren Frazier (2010-11) into seventh on the program's career list.
Next up for the Bobcats is Georgia State on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
