SAN MARCOS, Texas – In the final midweek home game of the season, Texas State (15-23) fell 5-1 to No. 2 Texas Tuesday night at Bobcat Ballpark.
Â
Suffering the loss was
Tony Robie (0-1) as he struck out a career-high six batters in five innings while surrendering two runs on five hits and three walks. Pete Hansen (4-1) earned the win as he held the Bobcats to a run on three hits and struck out four.
Â
Both
Triston Dixon and
Austin Smith threw 1.1 innings of relief with Smith striking out two. The duo of
Cameron Bush and
Otto Wofford recorded two outs apiece.
Â
The only hits for the Bobcats came off the bats of
Chase Evans,
Jose Gonzalez and
Dalton Shuffield.
Â
After Evans nearly hit a deep fly ball that would have left the yard if not for the wind blowing in in the bottom of the first, Shuffield reached based on a bunt single. The junior shortstop would advance to third on a single to left by Gonzalez.
Justin Thompson followed by hitting a 1-0 pitch deep to right for a sacrifice fly to put TXST up 1-0.
Â
The Longhorns would take the lead in the third with RBI hits from Mitchell Daly and Zach Zubia.
Â
UT would tack on two more runs in the seventh and added an insurance run in the ninth.
Â
Following a single to extend his hitting streak to nine games by Evans in the bottom of the third, the final 19 Bobcat batters were retired.
Â
Next up for Texas State is a return to Sun Belt Conference play when it hosts Arkansas State for a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.
