SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team (12-16, 3-5 Sun Belt) fell 9-3 to UT Arlington (11-15, 2-3 Sun Belt) Friday night at Bobcat Ballpark.

Taking the loss was
Cameron Bush (1-3) after he gave up eight runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings. Kody Bullard (4-2) was credited with the win as he surrendered a run on five hits and four walks while striking out four.

Throwing 1.1 innings apiece was Tristan Dixon,
Jonathan Martinez and
Tony Robie. Both Dixon and Martinez had a strikeout apiece while
Wes Engle struck out the lone batter he faced.

Jose Gonzalez and
Dalton Shuffield paced the Bobcats with two hits apiece. Gonzalez hit a double and home run while driving in two runs.

The second inning was the deciding inning as the Mavericks struck for six runs on five hits.

Cameron Gibbons led off the third with a single. He advanced to third when
Chase Evans followed with a single to center. An 0-2 offering to Shuffield was hit through the left side to plate Texas State's first run. The Bobcats were able to load the bases in the inning but a ground out to second ended the frame.

UTA added to its lead with a 2-RBI single by Anthony Dominguez in the fifth. An Andrew Miller home the following inning capped off the visitor's scoring.

The finale runs of the game came in the seventh that began with Shuffield drawing a walk. Two batters later, Gonzalez sent a 1-0 offering over the storage shed beyond the right centerfield wall for a two-run homer.

Saturday's series finale will see first pitch at 1 p.m.
