SEATTLE – Twice Texas State would load the bases with opportunities to break the game open Saturday but came up empty both times as Washington pulled out a 6-3 victory at Husky Ballpark.

The Bobcats drop to 15-21 on the season while the Huskies are now 14-16.

Garrett Herrmann (4-1) suffered his first defeat on the rubber as he allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out five. Tyson Guerrero (1-1) picked up the win as he struck out seven in five innings and gave up a run on four hits. Davis Delorefice recorded two strikeouts in a scoreless inning of work to earn his fourth save.

The trio of
Chase Evans,
Dalton Shuffield and
Justin Thompson all were 2-for-4 at the plate. Shuffield hit two doubles while Evans and Thompson had a home run and double, respectively. Also hitting an extra-base knock was
Jaxon Williams with a homer.

With two gone in the third, Shuffield laced a double down the left field line. Thompson followed with a double of his own to right to put the Bobcats on the scoreboard first. TXST was able to load the bases as
Jose Gonzalez was walked and
Bryce Bonner was hit by a pitch, however the threat ended on a ground out to second.

The Huskies answered in the next half inning on an RBI double by Ramon Bramasco to tie the game.

In the fifth, Evans started off by reaching on a bunt single. Shuffield followed by getting on via a fielding error by the first baseman on a sacrifice bunt attempt and Thompson was walked to load the bases with no outs. However, the next three batters struck out to keep the game knotted 1-1.

UW took advantage in the bottom of the inning as they plated five runs to take the lead.

Williams cut into the deficit as he started off the sixth with a solo home run to left field. Evans would hit a solo shot of his own, and his second homer in as many games, later in the frame to make it a 6-3 contest.

Shuffield would record his second double of the game with an out in the ninth. The junior shortstop would be stranded on base as the game ended.

The series concludes on Sunday with first pitch slated for 2 p.m. CT.
