Herrmann’s Career Performance Helps Bobcats Claim Series Over Trojans

TROY, Ala. – Texas State clinched the series over Troy on Saturday with a 3-1 victory at Riddle-Pace Field behind Garrett Herrmann's career performance on the mound.

Herrmann (4-0) recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts in seven innings while giving up an unearned run on four hits and walks. Cameron Bush threw two scoreless innings with four strikeouts to earn his first career save. Taking the loss was Garrett Gainous (4-3) as he surrendered three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five.

The middle infield of Cameron Gibbons and Dalton Shuffield combined to go 4-for-7 at the plate as they had two hits apiece. Shuffield scored twice and drove in a run along with Cole Coffey.

Will Hollis worked a walk and Shuffield followed by battling until he laced a single to center int eh second. An 0-1 pitch to Cole Coffey was smacked down the right field line for a double that plated a run. Shuffield was also able to score on the base knock as the Trojan shortstop muffed a throw into second base from the right fielder.

The Trojans would answer with a run in the bottom half of the inning behind two TXST errors.

Shuffield blasted his second home run of the season on a 2-1 offering in the fourth to put the Bobcats up 3-1.

Jose Gonzalez led off the eighth with a double and moved up to third on a passed ball. A pop up to the shortstop that was caught in left field was deep enough for Gonzalez to tag and he appeared to slide in to add an insurance run. However, the third base umpired ruled he left early despite replay showing Gonzalez to still have a foot on the bag when the ball was caught.

Bush came on to the rubber to start the bottom of the eighth and struck out the side. He followed with two fly outs and then recording his fourth strikeout of the game to close out the series clinching victory.

The series concludes tomorrow with a start time of 11 a.m.
