Herrmann Dominates & Late-Inning Homers Propels Bobcats to Series Victory

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Right-hander Garrett Herrmann put on a dominating performance on the mound and two late inning home runs helped Texas State (11-14, 2-4 Sun Belt) defeat ULM (10-10, 3-3 Sun Belt) 4-1 Sunday afternoon to win the Sun Belt Conference series.

Herrmann (3-0) threw a career-high seven innings with seven strikeouts while hold the Warhawks to a run on five hits and two walks. Tristan Stivors struck out three in a scoreless ninth to earn his third save of the season. Bryson Wrobel (1-2) took the loss as he gave up the Bobcats' go ahead run in 1.2 innings of action.

Also seeing action on the rubber for TXST was Otto Wofford as he tossed a scoreless eighth.

On a day with a strong wind blowing in, the Bobcats were limited to six hits. None were bigger than Dalton Shuffield's solo home run in the seventh. Justin Thompson added a 2-run homer the next inning to give Texas State a 4-1 cushion.

Stivors issued a walk to start off the top of the ninth and followed by striking out the next two batters. The junior plunked pinch hitter Britt McKay to put two on. Stivors got Wiley Cleland to swing and miss on a 1-2 pitch to close out the game.

ULM's Tracy Henry led off the game with a triple to right center and would score on a ground out to put the visitors up 1-0.

In the second, Bryce Bonner led off with a single back up the middle. He would advance to second on a wild pitch and later stole third. Following a walk to Tucker Redden, Cole Coffey hit a ground to the first baseman, who threw to second to get Redden. The return throw saw the pitcher catch it but wasn't able to find the bag for a potential inning ending double play and allowed Bonner to score to tie the game.

Next up for the Bobcats is a trip to Waco to take on Baylor at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
