Hollis Walks It Off in the 10th

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Senior Will Hollis hit an RBI double down the right field line to give Texas State (10-14, 1-4 Sun Belt) a 6-5 victory in 10 innings over ULM (10-9, 3-2 Sun Belt) Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Ballpark. The victory was head coach Steven Trout's first in a Sun Belt Conference game.

Tristan Stivors (1-1) pitched a perfect 10th to earn the win. Cole Martin (0-1) took the loss as he gave up two hits and the game-winning run while facing just two batters in the final frame.

Starting on the mound was Cameron Bush. He went five innings with four strikeouts while giving up three runs on six hits. Austin Smith threw 2.1 innings of relief, Matthew Nicholas tossed an inning and Otto Wofford recorded the final two outs of the ninth.

Hollis led all players with a 3-for-6 performance at the dish. Also recording a multi-hit game was Peyton Lewis with his second being a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game. Jose Gonzalez was the lone player in the contest to score two runs.

In the bottom of the first, Hollis led off with a single and advanced to second on a balk. Justin Thompson followed with a hard-hit single to right to put runners on the corners. A second balk was called on Tylor Jans that allowed Hollis to score and put the Bobcats up 1-0.

The Warhawks responded in the next half inning that saw Michael Cervantes hit a three-run homer.

Cole Coffey led off the bottom of the second with a moon shot over the right field wall to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Gonzalez laced a 1-0 pitch to left center to double to start off the third. After a wild pitch moved him to third, Bryce Bonner hit a single to left center that tied the game.

ULM hit back-to-back singles and a balk moved both runners into scoring position. Ryan Humeniuk hit a single back up the middle on a drawn in infield to plate two runs and put the Warhawks back in front 5-3.

On a 3-2 pitch, Gonzalez was plunked to start off the ninth. Two batters later, Lewis crushed a two-run shot to right field to tie the contest.

With ULM bringing in the left-handed throwing Martin, Cameron Gibbons was called on to pinch hit for Ben McClain. Gibbons laced a 1-1 offering to left center for a single and was then lifted for pinch runner Chase Evans.

Hollis followed by sending a 1-2 pitch down the right field line, just out of the reach of the first baseman, that rolled into the corner. That allowed the speedy Evans to score all the way from first for the walk-off win.

Sunday's rubber match is scheduled to start a 1 p.m. at Bobcat Ballpark.
