Baseball Drops Series Final at Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – An early lead could not be held as Little Rock (9-7, 3-0 Sun Belt) scored five runs late as Texas State (8-13, 0-3 Sun Belt) fell to in the series finale 7-4 Sunday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field.
 
Suffering the loss was Matthew Nicholas (0-1) as he allowed three runs on three hits with three strikeouts in two innings of relief. Jacob Weatherley (2-0) threw two scoreless frames to earn the win and Aaron Barkley tossed 1.1 scoreless innings to pick up his second save of the season.
 
Garrett Herrmann made his first weekend start in a Bobcat uniform. The right-hander struck out three while surrendering two runs on six hits in five innings. Tristan Stivors struck out one in his inning of work.
 
Both Isaiah Ortega-Jones and Tucker Redden went 2-for-4 at the plate. Wesley Faison scored twice and Jaxon Williams plated two runs.
 
In the first, Justin Thompson doubled to left center and scored two batters late on a single by Faison. After Redden drew a walk, Bryce Bonner hit an RBI single to left center to put TXST ahead 2-0.
 
The Bobcats held the Trojans off the scoreboard until the fifth when they hit a home run and scored another run after back-to-back doubles.
 
LR took the lead when it scored three runs in the seventh.
 
Back-to-back walks and a single to center off the bat of Redden loaded the bases. Williams would lace a 1-1 offering to through the left side to plate two and cut the deficit to 5-4.
 
The Trojans responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to retake a three-run advantage.
 
Will Hollis was issued a free pass to lead off the top of the ninth. Jose Gonzalez hit a deep fly to center that saw the outfielder initially catch the ball but lost it when he ran into the wall allowing both Bobcats to get into scoring position with one out. However, neither could be pushed across to extend the game.
 
Texas State returns home for four games this week beginning with Oklahoma on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
