Bobcats Battled Perennial Power North Texas

SAN MARCOS, Texas – In the first and only home match this spring, Texas State (4-10-1) battled with perennial power North Texas (2-0-0) but ultimately fell 1-0 on Sunday at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

The Bobcats nearly struck first just over a minute into the match. Madison Humphrey sent a perfect thru ball into the box. Mya Ulloa had a perfect run but got too much under her one-touch shot to send the ball over the crossbar.

Midway through the ninth minute, Allie Byrd sent a low show from the right that beat a diving Beth Agee. With the ball on track to cross the goal line at the back post, Gabie Jones was able to get back to knock the ball away to keep the match scoreless.

In the 22nd minute, Brooke Lampe unleashed a shot that saw Agee making a leap save to push the ball over the bar.

Just second into the 30 minute, Michelle Gonzalez attempted a pass that was blocked by a TXST defender. The ball bounced to Olivia Klein, who unleashed a rocket into the upper left corner of the goal to put the Mean Green ahead 1-0.

The Bobcats' defense held strong in the second half. Despite allowing 10 shots, only two of them were placed on goal by the visitors.

Kiara Gonzales had Texas State's only shot in the second half. It came midway through the 80th minute when were attempt from the right flank went over the crossbar.

Agee made four saves on the afternoon to give her 75 on the season. Her total moved her into eighth on the program's season list as she surpassed Natalie Gardini's 2012 total of 72.

Next up for the Bobcats is a trip up I-35 to Austin to take on Texas. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Friday and will air on the Longhorn Network.
