Bobcats Set Block Mark and Extend Win Streak to Eight

SAN MARCOS, Texas – In the final home non-conference game of the season, the Texas State men's basketball team set a new program single-game record with 14 blocks in a 75-36 victory Saturday evening at Strahan Arena. The previous program mark was 11 rejections against St. Edward's on Dec. 10, 2005.

The Bobcats improve to 9-2 on the year while the Tigers suffer their first loss to drop to 8-1.

Isiah Small knocked down his lone three-pointer 21 seconds in the game for the first bucket of the contest. TXST would never trail as the closest Paul Quinn got was a point at 3-2 following a layup a minute after Small's opening basket.

The Bobcats closed the first half by scoring the final eight points behind treys from Caleb Asberry and Shelby Adams, and a jumper courtesy of Nighael Ceaser to go up by 14.

After the Tigers scored the first four points of the second stanza, Texas State stepped up the pressure defensively. That resulted in the Bobcats going on a 36-6 run over an 11:38 minute span to squash any chance of an upset.

Ceaser recorded a career-high five blocks including the recording breaking rejection with 5:47 left in the game. Small had four blocks to tie his career best and Nate Martin posted two blocks. Also registering a rejection was Mason Harrell, Brandon Love and Tyrel Morgan. The 14 blocks is tied for the third most in a game by a Division I team this season.

Offensively, Dylan Dawson came off the bench to score a career-high 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting including going 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Ceaser totaled 12 points while going 5-for-6 from the field and 2-of-3 at the free throw line and grabbed seven rebounds. Also reaching double-figures was Harrell with 10 points.

Small grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and Asberry finished with seven boards and a team leading four assists.

TXST's defense held the Tigers to 22.2% shooting (12-for-54) and did not allow a made three-pointers. The Bobcats also outrebounded the visitors 51-29.

Next up for Texas State is a meeting with on the road with #13/#14 Houston on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
