Texas State volleyball runs streak to 11 with win at ULM

MONROE, La. — The Texas State volleyball program ran its Sun Belt Conference-leading winning streak to 11 Friday night with a three-set win at ULM. The Bobcats haven't dropped a match since being upended in four sets against Louisiana on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021.

Since that afternoon 41 days ago, Texas State (17-11, 13-2) has won 33 of its last 35 sets played, including a streak of five straight three-set wins and two pairs of back-to-back three-set victories, too. The Bobcats have only dropped the third set against Appalachian State (Saturday, Oct. 23) and Little Rock (Friday, Nov. 5).

The 11-match winning streak is the longest for the program since winning 17 straight from Friday, Sept. 18, 2020, to Friday, Nov. 13, 2020. Within that streak, 15 consecutive victories came against conference opponents, while this entire active winning streak has come against the Sun Belt Conference foes.

FROM HEAD COACH SEAN HUIET

"You have to give a lot of credit to ULM as that team played a really clean game and pushed us to work really hard off the ball. We were kind of sluggish to start, but I thought Kenedi (Rutherford) and Janell (Fitzgerald)'s offense gave us the spark we needed tonight. It was good to get a lot of players into the match as we know we are going to need everyone down the stretch."

MATCH NOTES
  • For the second time this season, Texas State senior setter Emily DeWalt led the Bobcats in total blocks on Friday night. DeWalt, who had three total blocks against the Warhawks, also had a team-high three total blocks in Texas State's three-set win over UTA on Thursday, Oct. 7.
  • With her 12 assists in three sets Friday night, sophomore setter Ryann Torres finished a match with double-digit assists for the first time since having 12 against ULM in San Marcos on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021.
  • With her 16 kills on 30 total attacks and no attack error, Friday night marked the first career match for Janell Fitzgerald with double-digit kills and no attack error. It was also Fitzgerald's first match without an attack error since Oct. 12, 2019.
  • Just five days after setting a season high with 11 kills against Arkansas State, Texas State senior outside Kenedi Rutherford matched that total, again, as she had 11 kills and only one attack error on 19 total attacks for a season-high .526 attack percentage. Friday night marked the first time Rutherford has been credited with back-to-back double-digit kills in a match since going for 12 and 11 against Little Rock and UTA on Oct. 24, 2020, and Oct. 30, 2020, respectively.
