Texas State closes out regular season with four-set win at Louisiana

LAFAYETTE, La. — The current 12-match winning streak for the Texas State volleyball program began following a four-set match against Louisiana on Saturday, Oct. 2. And 42 days later, the Bobcats returned the favor with a four-set victory over the Ragin' Cajuns.

Louisiana (14-10, 9-7) ran out to a quick three-point lead to start the match, before Texas State (18-11, 14-2) used a four-point run to take a 7-5 lead. The Bobcat advantage extended out to 9-6, before the two teams started trading the lead throughout the rest of the set. Kelsey Bennett, however, ended the set with back-to-back kills.

The following set, Texas State displayed its dominance as the road team hurried to a 6-2 lead and never looked back. Louisiana cut its deficit to three at 8-5 and 9-6, but the Bobcats always responded. TXST ran back out to a 15-9 lead, before the lead ballooned to 21-12. Tyeranee Scott capitalized on an Emily DeWalt set as the two seniors combined to end the set on a Scott kill.

Texas State carried that momentum over to the third set as the Bobcats went up 15-5 after opening the set on a 5-0 run. An attack error by Siena DeCambra made it 20-7, Bobcats, before the Ragin' Cajuns scrapped together a few points before a bad set by Reka Kotorman ended the set.

An early-set advantage is what Texas State got, again, to begin the fourth set as the Bobcats went up 11-5 following a kill by Tessa Marshall. A service error by Louisiana's Siena DeCambra made it 13-6, Texas State. The Ragin' Cajuns battled back to cut their deficit to two at 13-11 following a 5-0 run. The Bobcats kept the lead, though, and eventually took the set on a Kenedi Rutherford kill to halt a 4-1 run by Louisiana.
