LEXINGTON, Ky. — Texas State volleyball graduate assistant
Charli Fouts was named one of 18 recipients of the 2021 Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Thursday.
The scholarship allows a select group of up-and-coming volleyball coaches to attend their first AVCA Convention, by covering their registration and hotel costs for the event.
"On behalf of the committee, I would like to congratulate the scholarship recipients," said Jaime Gordon, AVCA Coaches 4 Coaches Committee Chair and Morehead State University Director of Volleyball and Director of Athletics. "There was an incredibly talented pool of applicants and a difficult process. We are confident that these coaches will be outstanding ambassadors for the Coaches 4 Coaches program.
"I am grateful for the time and commitment that the committee has dedicated to these applicants, as well as the many individuals that give so generously to make this program possible."
Fouts is in her first year as a graduate assistant at Texas State following a collegiate volleyball playing career as a defensive specialist at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., where she was named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll every season.
"Charli coaches our top travel teams, and she is one of the most successful and sought-after coaches in the club," said United Volleyball Association Director Tracy Smith. "She is organized, has the ability to learn quickly, possesses great knowledge of the sport, and can teach kids of all ages."
To qualify for the C4C Scholarship, applicants must be active AVCA members, who are attending the AVCA Convention for the first time. The selection committee reviews the applications and makes their decisions based on many factors. These scholarships are funded through the generous donations of AVCA-member coaches.
Current Texas State volleyball associate head coach
Keith Anderson was selected as a recipient in 2014. Anderson will be a mentor for one of the recipients in Fouts' class this year.
"I'm really excited for Charli to get this opportunity through he AVCA," said Texas State volleyball head coach
Sean Huiet. "The convention is a great way for her to learn from some great coaches and start her networking. Charli has a bright future ahead of her in this career."
Texas State will continue its 2021 fall regular season on Friday, Nov. 12 when the Bobcats play at ULM at 6 p.m. CT.
