STATESBORO, Ga. – An unlucky deflection was the difference in the match as Texas State (6-6-1, 3-4-0 Sun Belt) fell to Georgia Southern (9-4-2, 4-1-1 Sun Belt) 1-0 in overtime at Eagle Field.
Â
The Bobcats had a couple of good opportunities with the first being an attempt by
Mya Ulloa in the 18th minute that was caught by the goalkeeper. Ulloa would have another attempt in the 65th minute that saw the ball goes just wide of the left.
Â
In the 78th minute,
Hannah Solano got into the box and was taken out by the sliding goalkeeper to award TXST a penalty kick. However, the keeper guessed right on
Trinity Clark's attempt to keep the match scoreless.
Â
GS nearly got a late goal with just over a minute left in regulation as the ball clanked off the right post and back into play.
Â
Madison Humphrey was able to drive into the box early in the 93rd minute but her shot to the near post was caught by the goalie.
Â
Just 30 seconds later, Faith Phillips took a shot from 35 yards out that deflected off a Bobcat defender. The deflection caught
Beth Agee leaning the wrong way and the ball snuck into the bottom right corner before the sophomore was able to recover for the golden goal.
Â
Of Texas State's 17 shots, eight of them were on goal with five coming from Humphrey. Attempting three shots apiece was
Kiara Gonzales and
Bailey Peschel.
Â
Agee made six saves on the night to up her career total to 131. She is now three shy of tying Caitlynn Rinehart (2012-15) for sixth on the program's career list.
Â
Next up for the Bobcats is a trip to Boone, North Carolina to take on Appalachian State on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ESPN+.
