Solano Nets First Career Goal in Draw with Ragin’ Cajuns

LAFAYETTE, La. – Senior Hannah Solano found herself in the right place at the right time to knock in a rebound for her first career goal as Texas State played to a 1-1 draw against Louisiana on Sunday at the Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Complex.

With the result, the Bobcats are now 7-6-2 overall and 4-4-1 in Sun Belt Conference play while the Ragin' Cajuns are 6-8-2 on the season and 3-3-2 in conference play.

The Ragin' Cajuns struck first when Carol Rodriguez headed in a corner kick in the 10th minute.

A little over three and a half minutes later, Zoe Junior unleashed a curling shot that hit off the crossbar. Solano followed the shot and smacked the ball into the back of the net for the tying goal.

With 1:45 left in the first half, a handball was called on the Bobcats as the ball hit off the ground and bounced into the arm of a defender. The spot kick by Ruthny Mathurin was saved by Beth Agee to keep the contest tied.

A long-distance attempt by Trinity Clark went just wide of the right post for the Bobcats early in the 48th minute. Bailey Peschel had a great look from the six-yard box in the 59th minute but her high shot was knocked out of play by the goalkeeper at the last second.

LA nearly went in front midway through the 61st minute when a shot by Karleen Bedre clanked off the woodwork.

The Cajuns nearly scored early in the 93rd minute when Alyssa Abbot had her shot blocked and Bedre was there to get her foot on the ball. Luckily, she sent her attempt high over the bar.

Halfway through the 107th minute, Junior battled with a defender into the box. The Louisiana player lost her balance and fell into Junior for what would have been a penalty kick for Texas State. However, the ref called a foul on the Bobcat freshman instead.

Both teams' defenses did not allow a shot in the final three and a half minutes of play.

Despite being outshot, TXST was more efficient with its shots with five being on goal to the Cajuns' four. The trio of Mya Ulloa, Junior and Peschel took a team-high two shots apiece.

Agee recorded three saves on the afternoon in her 11th start of the season.

Next up for the Bobcats is their regular season finale and Senior Night when they host ULM on Friday. Kickoff is earlier than usual with it scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. The team will honor its four seniors after the match.
