SAN MARCOS, Texas –The Texas State football team had seven players earn eight spots on the 2020 Phil Steele All-Sun Belt Conference teams on Tuesday.
Headlining the Bobcat selections was senior return specialist
Jeremiah Haydel. He was named to the All-Conference First Team as a punt returner and Second Team as a kick returner.
Junior
Jarron Morris is on the Second-Team defense as a defensive back. At the same time,
Marcell Barbee is a Third-Team wide receiver, and
Nico Ezidore is a Third-Team defensive lineman. Offensive lineman
Dalton Cooper, kicker
Seth Keller, and punter
Seamus O'Kelly are Fourth-Team selections.
Jeremiah Haydel
ESPN named Haydel an All-America return specialist, and the Football Writers of America named him a Second-Team All-American punt returner. He ranked third nationally and led the Sun Belt Conference in combined kick return yards with 687 yards and was one of only two NCAA Division I FBS players to return a kickoff and punt for a touchdown. His 91-yard punt return against UTSA was the nation's longest punt return this season and came in the first game of his career in which he returned punts. Haydel ranked seventh nationally and led the Sun Belt in punt return average with 13.0 yards per game after returning 16 punts for 208 yards.
Jarron Morris
Morris tied for eighth nationally and third in the Sun Belt with four interceptions. Three of his pickoffs came in conference games. He returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown at ULM to clinch Texas State's first win in 2020. The return tied the school and league records for the longest interception return in a game. Morris led Texas State with 69 tackles and ranked second among league leaders with 15 passes defended and 11 breakups. He also forced a fumble at Boston College and recovered a fumble against Louisiana to set up a touchdown drive.
Marcell Barbee
Barbee ranks seventh nationally and second in the Sun Belt Conference with 10 touchdown receptions. He led the Bobcats with 40 receptions for 584 yards. His 48.7 receiving yards per game ranked 10th among league leaders. His best game came against Arkansas State when Barbee caught six passes for 76 yards and one touchdown. He had two touchdown receptions at Boston College and 14th-ranked BYU. He had six receptions for 65 yards and one TD against Appalachian State.
Nico Ezidore
Nico Ezidore ranked fifth among Sun Belt leaders with 13.0 tackles for loss and 14th with a career-high 3.5 sacks. His 66 total tackles were the third-highest total on the team. He demonstrated his versatility after playing at defensive tackle and defensive end during the 2020 season.
Dalton Cooper
Cooper is in his first year as a starting left tackle for Texas State's offense that averaged 369.7 total yards, 27.7 points, and 131 yards on the ground. He started all 12 games.
Seamus O'Kelly
Seamus O'Kelly ranked third among Sun Belt punting leaders with over 40 punts after averaging 41.0 yards on 57 punts. O'Kelly placed 17 punts inside the 20 yard-line and had six 50-yard punts throughout the season. His 65-yard punt at Troy was a career-long boot. He averaged 51.0 yards on three punts with a long punt of 59 yards against Arkansas State and placed two punts inside the 29 against the Red Wolves. O'Kelly had a season-best four punts inside the 20 at BYU and had three at Boston College.
Seth Keller
Seth Keller led Texas State with 62 points after making 8-9 field goal attempts and 32- 33 extra-point tries. Keller led the Sun Belt Conference in field goal percentage with 88.9 percent. He took over the field goal kicking duties three games into the season and scored eight points in Texas State's first win at ULM. The league named Keller the Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week after he tallied 10 points against Louisiana.
