Soccer Drops Non-Conference Finale to UCA

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team dropped its non-conference finale Friday night at Bobcat Soccer Complex to Central Arkansas 2-0.

With the loss, the Bobcats enter Sun Belt Conference play 0-4-1 while the Bears improve to 1-1-1.

Most of the action in the first half was in the midfielder area while UCA entered halftime with an 8-3 edge in shots. The most dangerous opportunity of the period came from the Bears' Emma Hawkins with 95 seconds remaining. Her attempt saw Beth Agee make a diving stop to keep the contest scoreless at halftime.

UCA got on the scoreboard 65 seconds into the second half when Abby Gibson headed the ball in off a corner kick.

Ally Kewish had a good look in the 59th minute from distance. However, the ball deflected off a defender for an easy save for the goalkeeper.

Early in the 64th minute, Wimberley Wright won the ball and got spacing from her defender near the top of the 18-yard box. She unleashed a shot that was going for the upper right corner but hit off another defender and right into the keeper's arms.

The Bears added to their lead in the 72nd minute off another corner kick that saw Taylor Webb head the ball into the back of the net.

Haley Shaw took the final shot of the match for either team midway through the 75th minute but saw the ball fly wide right of the frame.

The final opportunity to cut into the visitor's lead came in the 88th minute. Shaw sent in a cross from the right side that nearly found Bailey Peschel. However, the sophomore was unable to connect with her header attempt.

Pacing TXST with two shots each were Emma Jones, Kewish and Wright. The trio also placed one attempt on goal along with Kiara Gonzales.

In goal, Agee made five saves.

Next up for the Bobcats is their Sun Belt opener against Louisiana. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff at the Bobcat Soccer Complex to conclude Texas State's four-match homestand.
