Gonzales and Kammer Score in OT Setback to Wildcats

SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the third time this season, the Texas State soccer team (0-3-1) went to extra time. The Bobcats came out on the short end, falling 3-2 late in the first overtime period to Abilene Christian (1-1-1) Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

Both teams had a couple of opportunities with the first shot on goal coming from Ally Kewish exactly 12 minutes into the match.

A little over two minutes after a scheduled hydration break, TXST won a corner kick. Renny Moore sent in the ball that found Kiara Gonzales on a perfectly timed run to head it into the back of the net for her first career goal.

Late in the 30th minute, the Wildcats had a corner kick of their own. Kicking the ball short, Christina Arteaga dribbled to the top of the box and placed her shot into the upper portion of the goal to tie the match.

Ashley Stamps sent a long ball in from the far side of the field into the 18-yard box just over six minutes later. Jordan Michie was just able to beat the defender and snuck a shot past the goal line to put ACU up 2-1.

The Wildcats maintain possession for most of the second half and held a 7-4 shot advantage but placed only two on frame.

Early in the 76th minute Olivia Wright battled and won the ball near midfield. The freshman followed with a perfect through ball. Sydney Kammer split two defenders and popped the ball just over the diving goalkeeper's reach to tie the match 2-2.

Gonzales had an opportunity to put the Bobcats back in front during the 79th minute. However, she wasn't able to get enough on it to beat the keeper.

ACU outshot TXST 3-0 in the overtime period with the last one proving costly. Unable to clear a corner kick, Alyssia Anuat sent in a cross that hit off a head of a defender Bobcat and stayed in the box. Ellen Joss headed the ball into the upper right corner for the golden goal with 32 seconds left on the clock.

Kammer led Texas State with a career-high six shots. Haley Shaw, Wimberley Wright and Gonzales all took three shots apiece. The foursome all place two of their attempts on goal.

In goal, Beth Agee made eight saves to give her 30 stops on the season.

Next up for the Bobcats is their final non-conference contest of the season on Friday against Central Arkansas. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
