HOUSTON – The schedule was recently announced for the 2021 Shriners Hospital for Children College Classic that takes place Mar. 5-7, 2021 at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros. It will see Texas State face Rice, TCU and Texas Tech in its second time playing in the event.
Â
First up for the Bobcats will be the Red Raiders on Friday, Mar. 5 at 3 p.m. It will be the first meeting between the programs since 2011, an 8-5 win for Texas Tech in San Marcos. Prior to that contest, TXST had won four straight in the series that the Red Raiders lead 7-6.
Â
On Saturday, Texas State faces off against the Owls at 11 a.m. The Bobcats have won the last five games against Rice including a 9-2 victory this season at Bobcat Ballpark. In TXST's first-ever game of the Shriners College Classic in 2019,
Nicholas Fraze threw seven shutout innings with a career-high 12 strikeouts in a 1-0 victory on his way to earning the event's Most Outstanding Player award.
Â
The Classic closes out for the Bobcats with a meeting with the Horned Frogs at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Mar. 7. TCU leads the all-time series 24-13 but TXST has took the last two meetings in a home-and-home matchup in 2012. For head coach
Steven Trout, it will be the first-time he will face off against his college coach, Jim Schlossnagle.
