SAN MARCOS, Texas – ESPN announced Tuesday morning Texas State senior kick returner
Jeremiah Haydel is on the network's 2020 All-America team as a return specialist.
"Haydel turned in one highlight-reel play after another this season," wrote ESPN senior writer Chris Lo. "His one-handed touchdown catch against SMU was one for the ages, but he saved some of his best stuff for special teams. Â He had a tackle-breaking, 91-yard punt return for a touchdown to send the UTSA game into overtime, and he returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown against Georgia Southern."
Haydel ranked third nationally in combined kick return yards with 674 and was one of only two NCAA Division I FBS players to return a kickoff and punt for a touchdown.
Â
His 91-yard punt return against UTSA was the nation's longest punt return this season and came in the first game of his career in which he returned punts.
Â
The Houston native's 164 kickoff return yards against Georgia Southern were the nation's seventh-highest total and included a 97-yard return for a touchdown.
Â
Haydel ranked eighth nationally in punt returns with a 13.0 average after returning 16 punts for 208 yards and 23rd nationally in kickoff returns after averaged 25.2 yards per return. He had 19 kickoff returns for 479 yards.
Â
Haydel was chosen an All-Sun Belt Conference Second-Team selection as a return specialist and all-purpose player after he finished the season as the only Sun Belt Conference player to have single 100-yard games in receiving, kickoff returns, and punt returns.
Â
The senior wide receiver tied for the team lead with 40 receptions and had career-bests of 408 receiving yards and four touchdown receptions.
